The prevalence of cataract as cause of low vision and preventable blindness is quite high in Ondo State, Nigeria. In those areas, there exists dearth of requisite personnel for eye care services and cataract surgeries. That is, the absence of personnel for specialized eye care services has hampered plans to stem that specific health burden among those populations. For instance, in the Okitipupa and Ode-Irele Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Ondo State of Nigeria, the cost of cataract surgeries is out of reach for the affected rural poor populations who are in great need for surgical intervention
